Standards review
ROUND TWO SUBMISSIONS CLOSE MONDAY, 23 NOVEMBER.
In July 2007, we released our healthcare standards aimed at improving the safety and quality of all health services.
The standards set out reasonable processes providers must comply with toward fulfilling their legislated duty to improve the quality of health services.
We undertook an interim review to address minor issues and released amendments in July 2008. We are following this up with a full review of the standards, for release on 1 July 2010.
Get involved
You can get involved in the full review of standards by:
- providing us with feedback. We will release a discussion paper on each standard. Read our discussion papers and provide us with feedback. We will consider all submissions.
- becoming a member of an Expert Reference Group. Each standard will have a Reference Group of seven participants who will discuss all submissions and make recommendations to the Commission on amendments (see our terms of reference). Expressions of interest have now closed.
Our review is taking a staged approach under the timeframe detailed below.
Stage one (1 August - 30 October 2009)
Standards:
- Review of hospital related deaths
- Hand hygiene
- Surgical safety - appropriate use of antibiotic phrophylaxis
Submissions CLOSED.
Stage two (1 November 2009 - 31 January 2010)
Standards:
- Management of AMI on and following discharge from hospital

The second Reference Group workshop will be held on 2 December 2009.
Stage three (1 February - 30 April 2010)
Standards:
- Section 20 - Duty of provider
- Credentialling and defining the scope of clinical practice
- Complaints management
Deadline for submissions - 5 March 2010
The third Reference Group workshop will be held in early March 2010.
