The watchdog

Every day, healthcare professionals across the state helps thousands of Queenslanders.

But sometimes mistakes and incidents happen, bad decisions are made, or a service falls well short of expectations.

We are here to help you voice and resolve your concerns. Our services are independent, impartial and free.

We are an independent health watchdog, striving to achieve a healthy future for four million Queenslanders.

We do this by:

  • working with patients and their families and friends and healthcare providers to try to resolve concerns
  • helping healthcare providers learn from complaints, by making recommendations to improve services
  • investigating issues that have caused, or pose, a threat to patient safety.

In this way, we are not only helping resolve the concerns of today, but working to prevent the health isssues of tomorrow.

The long term health of our sector relies on Queenslanders being aware of their right to access high quality, safe care, and voicing their concerns and complaints when things go wrong.

Each year, we receive about 5000 complaints and enquiries from patients, their family and friends, and healthcare workers – all concerned about patient safety. Most people call us for advice, some give us information, and others lodge a complaint.

Along with giving our complainants peace of mind, their calls provide us with vital information, helping us identify issues or emerging trends within the health sector.

If you have a healthcare concern, complete our online complaint form, or call us on 3120 5988 or toll free on 1800 077 308 (callers outside Brisbane).

We will listen to your concerns and explain how we can help. If we can’t help, we will try to refer you to someone who can.
