Right to information and information privacy
We provide access to information under the Right to Information Act 2009 and the Information Privacy Act 2009.
These Acts implement the Queensland Government's commitment to providing the community with greater access to information. Government held information should be available unless on balance it is contrary to the public interest to release it.
You should consider what type of information you require before making an application.
- The Information Privacy Act contains the process for access to, and amendment of, your personal information. Generally, there is no charge for making an application to access your personal information, but there are some exceptions. You must provide certified proof of your identity before your application can be processed. The Information Privacy Act also explains how to make a complaint about the way in which we have dealt with your personal information, specifically because you are concerned we have breached the privacy principles.
- The Right to Information Act governs your right to access to all other information. Fees apply for the provision of that information, including an initial application fee of $38. This process also applies to applications made on behalf of children or someone who has died. Certified proof that the applicant has a sufficient interest in the information is required.
- If you are seeking a combination of personal and non-personal information, the Right to Information Act will apply.
