FAQ's: consumer

Will complainants’ names be kept confidential?

We will not disclose confidential information unless it is for the purpose of the Health Quality and Complaints Commission Act 2006 or for the purpose of other laws (e.g. to give information to the Medical Board of Queensland about a medical practitioner).

Will Commission standards require health service providers to supply regular reports?

We will apply, adopt or incorporate existing standards, and may create new ones if no appropriate standard exists. All reporting requirements will focus on improving patient safety, and will minimise duplication of safety and improvement processes already used by health service providers.

We of course will consult with health service providers and consumers before we adopt or create any standards.

How will we report on the quality?

Our reports about the quality of health services or the results of investigations may be tabled in parliament at our request and can also be distributed to a wide range of bodies that may be able to take action on matters raised in a report.

Consumer confidentiality will be protected. For example, a report may only be distributed after the identifying information has been removed.
